Empowering Communities Against Health Misinformation

The Project Combating Health Misinformation is a collaborative initiative dedicated to tackling the critical issue of false and misleading information in the health sector. In today’s digital age, the rapid spread of rumors and misinformation through the internet and social networks can significantly undermine public health policies and lead to uninformed health decisions.

Our Mission

This project aims to strengthen public health by reducing the risk of encountering and believing in fake health news, ensuring that health decisions are well-informed. We are committed to empowering communities with the essential skills and digital tools needed to critically assess the credibility of online health information.

Collaborative Approach

Bringing together multiple universities and institutions, the project fosters a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment. Students and faculty from diverse fields, including health sciences, media studies, and technology, are working together to research, develop, and disseminate evidence-based best practices for verifying online health information.

Key Areas of Focus

Our activities focus on:

  • Education and Awareness: Providing educational workshops, seminars, and materials to improve critical media literacy skills regarding health information.
  • Digital Empowerment: Creating accessible digital resources, such as an informative website, a digital guidebook, and the design documentation for a mobile application and an interactive digital game, to promote responsible information-sharing practices.
  • Community Engagement: Actively involving various community groups, including students, young immigrants, chronic patients, and health professionals, in the co-creation and utilisation of educational resources.

Expected Impact

By fostering civic engagement and promoting a culture of informed citizenry, this initiative contributes to a more resilient public health landscape. The project seeks to instil lifelong skills in media literacy, enabling individuals to navigate health information responsibly and confidently.
